James Meehan, MD – A Brave Doctor Who Cared

James C. Meehan, Jr., MD, 59, an ophthalmologist and functional medicine doctor, who was an outspoken critic of COVID-19 shot risks and failures, a brave vaccine choice advocate, and longtime supporter of the work of the National Vaccine Information Center (NVIC), lost his heroic battle with cancer 1 on June 15, 2024. A celebration of life service will be held on Friday June 28, 2024 at Life Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

A preventive medicine specialist, whose passion and purpose was to help his patients “understand how our bodies are designed to heal and obtain optimal functionality,” Dr. Meehan encouraged everyone to “become the scientist of your own health.” He graduated from University of Oklahoma College of Medicine in 1998. He completed his residency in ophthalmology at Washington University and Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO. 2

Before he began his career in medicine, he was an award-winning West Point cadet, medical sales executive and entrepreneur. He was also a black-belt Tae Kwon Do, NAGA World Jiu Jitsu Champion, and 2013 “Living Legend” inductee into the Martial Arts Masters Hall of Fame. 3

Dr. Meehan had advanced training in ophthalmology, medical informatics, interventional endocrinology and nutrition. He invented the MINDSET ™ Wellness Operating System and specialized in hormone optimization for men and women, pain management, addiction medicine, diagnostic laboratory services, toxicology, and pharmacogenetics. In his practice of healthcare, he helped thousands of patients optimize their health and reduce or eliminate their dependence on dangerous drugs. 4

In 2017 in an NBC News article criticizing conversations on social media questioning vaccination, Dr. Meehan took on medical doctors refusing to acknowledge vaccine risks and failures. He said: 5

“The level of ignorance and amount of misinformation parroted by these medical doctors should and will haunt them as the truth of harm is exposed.”

Soon after the coronavirus pandemic declaration in the spring of 2020, Dr. Meehan was among the first of a handful of courageous doctors who opposed mask mandates. He stood up in a town meeting in a Tulsa armory in June 2020 and warned that forcing people to wear medical masks for long periods of time decreases oxygen levels. He said: 6

“This medical intervention that your City Council and your mayor are going to consider is a medical intervention. I don't think the lawmakers and our civil servants should be engaged in recommending or mandating a medical intervention. That should be left to the individual and their doctor and consultation. When we recommend something in medicine, we have a legal and ethical obligation to talk to you about risks, benefits, and alternatives."

In September 2020, he hosted a press conference in which a group of business owners announced a lawsuit against Tulsa Mayor G.T. Bynum, the Tulsa Department of Health, Tulsa Health Department Executive Director Bruce Dart and the Tulsa City Council for enacting a mask mandate in the summer of 2020. The lawsuit alleged that “face coverings cause an oxygen deficient atmosphere,” and asked the court to vacate the city’s mask mandate. 7 A number of subsequent studies have confirmed that long term use of medical masking does impair oxygenation and raise CO2 levels in children and adults, especially in those vulnerable to breathing problems. 8 9 10

Online, patients spoke about Dr. Meehan’s intelligence and compassion: 11 12

“You will not find a more honest, trustworthy, compassionate Dr.!! I’ve never had a Dr. listen to ME. I have hope, a sense of knowing I’m going to be OK.”

“The best doctor I have ever had! He genuinely cares about my healthcare & wellbeing.”

“Exceptional. Caring. Intelligent. Great teacher!”

"One of the most knowledgeable doctors in the industry, finds the route of the health issue instead of just masking symptoms. Not only do you get intelligent help, but you won’t find a more compassionate doctor. "

I last saw Jim Meehan at the Vaccine Injury Epidemic (VIE) event in November 2019 in Washington, DC, when he and I spoke on the National Mall about the vaccine-related chronic disease and disability epidemic plaguing children in America. 13 14 I remember how happy and proud he was that his family was there to share that experience, and how impressed I was with his passion and commitment to standing up for what he believed in no matter what price he had to pay.

The HealthGrades biography of Dr. Meehan includes these statements:15

“Despite all of his accomplishments, he will tell you his greatest joys come from his service to Christ, 30 years of devotion to his beautiful wife, Cathy, raising five amazing children, watching them find their paths and purpose in the world, and enjoying every possible moment with his grandchildren.”

A man with integrity, Dr. James Meehan is the kind of intelligent, brave and caring doctor we all should have to help us when we are sick and to guide us when we are well. We remember him with love and appreciation for what he chose to do and gave to us while he took his journey on this earth.

Thank you for this tribute to Dr. Jim, Barbara. I met Jim before I moved to Arkansas in 2017. His office in Tulsa was just 2 hours from my home in Fayetteville. I was very newly in remission from CRPS and moved to Arkansas alone, while my husband remained in Indiana to finish out his career. Knowing that Jim was close was a true comfort to me and he let me know that if I needed anything, all I had to do was ask. Just after I moved to Fayetteville, there was a cluster of sudden-onset neuropsychiatric disorders in young women who lived in a small town near Tulsa. Jim and I had many conversations during that time, and I traveled to his area to talk with the families of the girls who were affected, attempting to help uncover the source of their debilitating symptoms. Jim was my cheerleader, coach, ardent supporter, and friend. I will never forget his booming voice, commanding presence, and unwavering dedication to the truth. He was a BIG presence. From our first meeting, he made me feel valued and supported in my work. I always knew that he was there if I had a question or needed anything. He was a brilliant doctor and scientist, and our conversations were always stimulating and regenerative for me. I loved him. And as anyone who knew him will testify, he had a way of letting those he cared about know that he loved them with a ferocity that is rarely displayed in today's world. This loss is devastating to so many, and especially so for his precious wife, Cathy, their children and grandchildren. My thoughts and prayers are with Jim's family. As much as this hurts me and others in our community, I cannot imagine the pain they are going through. He was truly a giant in every sense of the word.

Sounds like a well rounded man who believed in the principles of self healing and that some interventions were needed. God gave us bodies that can self heal and that many drugs and vaccines only deplete our natural healing. God has a final resting place for all the honest and good work he’s done to help and guide humanity. May he happily be reunited to his family on the other side of the veil Amen

I too saw Dr. Meehan at the VIE event in Washington DC in November 2019. I have also seen him when he appeared as a guest and as a host on HIGHWIRE! I have been impressed by his knowledge, his ability to speak the truth, and his courage and commitment to stand up for what is right. My deepest condolences to his family, his patients, and all those who loved him. He was God’s servant and now rests having done the work he was sent here to do. May you find comfort in all the memories you have of your time together. God bless you all and to Dr. Meehan, thank you for all the ways you contributed to make this world a better place. May you rest in peace.

I had the pleasure of speaking with Dr. Meehan during my online medical consults. Doc Meehan listened to me, assigned me homework, ordered labwork and my maintenance drug, as well as medicines I needed to survive virus exposures. His passion was balancing hormones. I know he went through conventional treatment, and it wrecked his health, as it did mine when I went through it. I am keenly interested to know how effective any alternative treatments were for him. I'm saddened by not only losing a personable, compassionate and caring physician, but also a heroic champion for health freedom. God embrace you, Doc Meehan.

What a wonderful human being Dr Meehan was. We were greatly blessed to have such a caring person fighting for informed consent. I'm reminded of the loss of Dr Toni Bark in early 2020 to cancer, another passionate and caring physician who fought the good fight for all of us. Infinite love and respect to them, their families, Barbara Lowe Fisher, and supporters of NVIC.

I am so saddened to hear that he lost his battle with cancer. I learned of him via the Highwire, and watched him host the show several times. He won my heart in every way. I was upset when I learned via GiveSendGo messages that he was using chemotherapy and enteral nutrition, as both of these are terrible for the body, and the "nutrition" is loaded with sugar that feeds cancer. I had sent his office and family via GiveSendGo information about the Riordan Clinic, Dr. Hunninghake and their IVC treatments for cancer being a huge success. I didn't hear back from the family, and the impression I got back from his clinic wasn't heartening in that I would be heard before he exhausted the treatments above. He was a truly great man, and the world is significantly depleted without his knowledge and presence. May you rest in peace, Jim, and have everlasting conversations with Dr. Andrew Saul, who will be right up there with you. Deep condolences for his family are sent from me here today.
